A Third Party Rises

About a month ago I stumbled across an interesting Wikipedia article.  The current British Government has been in power for nearly a year and a half now, but what struck me was the fact that it was a coalition government.  A coalition government is one that has more than one party in it, which forms majority rule. The current government run by David Cameron is manly made up of Conservatives. Conservatives are the right of center political party in British politics. What interests me is the fact that the minority party in the government is the Liberal Democrats. The Liberal Democrats are a smaller, left of center party in British politics.  During the 2010 British Election the Conservatives defeated the incumbent Labor Party in total number of seats won for the first time since 1997.  The Conservatives however did not gain enough seats to win a majority so the elections results were left in dough. Enter the Liberal Democrats. With a mere 57 seats in Parliament the Liberal Democrats shunned their like minded big brother in the Labor Party, and entered a coalition with the Conservative.   A week after reading this, this still blows my mind! A party that has similar interest with another goes against them to work with the enemy! To me this is government at its best.  Political enemies that are able to work together for the common good of the people, that is unheard of today.
We rebelled against Britain in the 1700’s because we did not feel that we were accurate represented by the politicians in England at that time. Now its time for another revolution, one that in wish we follow England, not break from them. I challenge all politicians to think about the model of government that Britain has, and try to imagine that if it works for them, why couldn’t  work for us!
