The Five Ways to Survive Being A Moderate

Being a moderate is difficult , that I know .  I try to do the best I can to be unbiased. With that said it's hard to not be passionate about issues I care about. There's now easy way to remain a moderate.  Even as news orgizations call us friendly and nonconfrontational, political parties try to purge us from their political parties .  I find it increasingly difficult to do so with this growing partisan political atmosphere.  I have tried to assemble a  quick list of tips that all moderates should strive by.

 1. Listen to all opinions.   All moderates must do this , listening provides the  opportunity to solve the problems only moderates can fix.
 2.  Keep quiet  A wise person keeps and keeps others guessing. You need to observe your friends and enemies,  not be observed. Moderates are notorious for waiting   To see who they are going to vote for. Look at the last presidential where moderates were the key swing votes in the election. The top  reason President Obama won was because moderates voted for him.
3.  Stay away from partisan people. I'm not saying lock yourself in a closet and yell " La la la  la " until the partisans go away. I'm saying try now to let partisans influence you. Your your own person so be it.
4.Read the news  You need to be current on the news , if you want to make up to date discussions  on issues. The news affects the policy's of the day,  so it's up to you if want to understand them .
 5. Be yourself  A true moderate can never be influenced , whatever their opinion is   It is truly there's.  We can learn a lot from ourselves, all you have to do is listen .

Best of the Political Blogs:

Over the very short time of being a political blogger, I have come across some very interesting political blogs, which I dare say might just rival mine! No, honestly these blogs are better than mine, and l learned a lot browsing them. Any well informed citizen should read these. I think everyone should know what the politicians in their country are doing, and these blogs help you out in that area. The basics of a blog is to keep an eye on the topic that the blogger themselves cover. Reading these top five will inform you and make you a better educated citizen. Remember what Thomas Jefferson said “"I know no safe depositary of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education.”

Politico- That’s enough said right there.

Renegade Post- One of the most interesting international affairs blogs, they post now and again. So if you like a take on modern culture, it’s you place.

Human rights investigation is no holds bar, a put it out there cite.  It warns its readers about the graphic content in Syria, a bloody political civil war. It dives deep to find the truth.

A conservative alternative to a more liberal media, it provides a few good points. I’m not saying believe everything because it is right of center, but for the well informed it allows regular people to take a more conservative look at the news.

The blog is very interesting as it keeps you up to date on foreign affairs in the Middle East.  The next time a Foreign Policy Debate is held , you might actually understand the candidates Middle Eastern Foreign Policy, and the threats to this country.

A Third Party Rises

About a month ago I stumbled across an interesting Wikipedia article.  The current British Government has been in power for nearly a year and a half now, but what struck me was the fact that it was a coalition government.  A coalition government is one that has more than one party in it, which forms majority rule. The current government run by David Cameron is manly made up of Conservatives. Conservatives are the right of center political party in British politics. What interests me is the fact that the minority party in the government is the Liberal Democrats. The Liberal Democrats are a smaller, left of center party in British politics.  During the 2010 British Election the Conservatives defeated the incumbent Labor Party in total number of seats won for the first time since 1997.  The Conservatives however did not gain enough seats to win a majority so the elections results were left in dough. Enter the Liberal Democrats. With a mere 57 seats in Parliament the Liberal Democrats shunned their like minded big brother in the Labor Party, and entered a coalition with the Conservative.   A week after reading this, this still blows my mind! A party that has similar interest with another goes against them to work with the enemy! To me this is government at its best.  Political enemies that are able to work together for the common good of the people, that is unheard of today.
We rebelled against Britain in the 1700’s because we did not feel that we were accurate represented by the politicians in England at that time. Now its time for another revolution, one that in wish we follow England, not break from them. I challenge all politicians to think about the model of government that Britain has, and try to imagine that if it works for them, why couldn’t  work for us!

The Independents : The Silent Ruling Majority

For many years people have complained about the lack of choice in the general election cycle. The public views the Democrats as to liberal and the Republicans as to conservative. The common ground, once the norm in the political spectrum is long gone.   Due to the fact that our political parties are so different, the  people that have fairly moderate views on issues feel like they have been left out in the cold. These people tend to agree with some of both parties ideas but not all of them. Generally speaking these people tend to be called the Independents in the presidential elections. Candidates try to woo them because everyone knows you can’t win an election with out the moderate vote.

Independent voters have swung between Democrats and Republicans in recent elections – but the 16-point edge they gave Republicans in the tea party election of 2010. John Avlon

My point is the Independents are important; they care about this nation, not a political party.  They put a unique stamp on our political spectrum and they do it without causing to much a stir. I feel like the political parties in America don’t care about us, they care abut getting our vote, but not our ideas for the country. The best way for me to describe  the independents is to compare them to   kid who bring the ball for kick ball. The kid who brings the ball is weird and different, and no one wants him on their team. The kids on the teams  do however want the ball to be able to play.  To me this is a perfect allegory to the real world’s politics. Both parties need the independents to deliver the votes so they can win, but no one really wants to represent the independents once they get to congress. Its not right that we our used in this way. Its not just one political party , its both of them that do this . We need to change the system, because if we don’t , we will still be in the same position that we our in now, a hundred years down the road.
